No, this is not a joke.

Thank you to whomever may have posted a link to this in the club page comments, although credit goes to =behnkestudio as the one whose blog post brought this to my attention.

Anyway, I'm fairly certain ninety percent of you were in the camp of disliking the endings to a supreme extent and wish for an alternative.

I know this has been said before, but you're getting it.

Sort of.

The details released are as follows.

The Mass Effect Extended Cut DLC will feature new dialogue, cinematics and epilogue scenes that will expound upon the game's different endings, which will be working to satisfy issues people have with them cirrently. It will be available for free on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC from its release this summer up until April of 2014.

This was agreed upon as the ideal compromise to appease the fans dissatisfied with the end of Mass Effect 3 while still retaining the artistic integrity of the product the team worked so hard on.

In Ray Muzyka words, "Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding. With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team's artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe."

Darek Larke posted this mini FAQ on the Bioware Boards.

"What can fans expect from the Extended Cut DLC?
For fans who want more closure in Mass Effect 3, the DLC will offer extended scenes that provide additional context and deeper insight to the conclusion of Commander Shepard's journey.

Are there going to be more/different endings or ending DLCs in the future?
No. BioWare strongly believes in the team's artistic vision for the end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise. The extended cut DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned.

What is BioWare adding to the ending with the Extended Cut DLC?
BioWare will expanding on the ending to Mass Effect 3 by creating additional cinematics and epilogue scenes to the existing ending sequences. The goal of these new scenes is to provide additional clarity and closure to Mass Effect 3.

When will the Extended Cut DLC be available?
Currently the Extended Cut DLC is planned for this summer, no specific date has been announced at this point.

Why are you releasing the Extended Cut DLC?
Though we remain committed and are proud of the artistic choices we made in the main game, we are aware that there are some fans who would like more closure to Mass Effect 3. The goal of the DLC is not to provide a new ending to the game, rather to offer fans additional context and answers to the end of Commander Shepard's story.

So there you have it. Are we proud of the game we made and the team that made it? Hell yes. Are we going to change the ending of the game? No. Do we appreciate the passion and listen to the feedback delivered to us by our fans? Very much so and we are responding."

There you have it, feel free to share your thoughts and make your predictions or condemnations.

Oh, and here's something else pertaining to specific endings: [link]

I really think this is the best solution. This way, the objective problems with the ending can hopefully be addressed in a satisfying way. I think adding context, and needed additional content where applicable, is absolutely the right call. Having context can radically change your perception of something without turning an apple into an orange. Adding a "new" ending would have made both the original as well as the new ending hollow, since the nature of canon would no longer have been absolute.

How can you guys be happy about that? I mean who says that the scenes are wanted to be seen? Who says that the scenes will improve something? What if they just add content we dont want to see. For example I dont want to see how the relationship between Garrus and Tali goes any further. Or I dont want to see a 5 minutes trailer which explains instead of bringing me in the game and play a new ending.
In fact they said they dont want to change the ending. It will be the same stupid ending. They only explain why it is stupid instead of changing the stupid things.

Why cant they give us gameplay instead of eye candy? I WANT TO PLAY A NEW ENDING. Not a trailer which explains why they gave us nonsense.

Glad that it is free, and hopefully it will explain some of the plot-holes/problems that exist with the current ending.

I look forward to the DLC and I am impressed that it will be free. I'm excited to just know that what happened actually happened and wasn't some bizarre dream sequence with no resolution.

I feel really sceptic about Ending DLC. To spoil such great story in last 15-20 minutes and say "we are proud of the artistic choices we made" ..... I have no words, just nerd rage :frustrated: :fork: ....anyway endings don't make sense without indoctrination theory.

Hmmm...
Not sure what to see in this to be honest, closure is one of the many things I indeed wanted for ME3 - along with the ability to punch the God-child-thing in the face. I look forward to them attempting to explain the many, many faults that showed up at the end and what will happen next. I do admit my inner child wanted a happy ending where Shepard kicked some ass and lived happily ever after without having to loose the Geth and EDI, they were some of the coolest characters in the game after all (you know, minus some other bad-ass squadmates).
I will get this DLC, but I am not getting my hopes up.

Personally I thought the ending was pretty awesome. Very ... how to say... artistic is one word I guess... I just can't figure out a word to desribe my feelings of it. But I did like it. Tho I will not mind the extended DLC. I like how the ending kinda lets you imagine things yourself as well. Allowes you to use your own imagination for the last conclusions... That's nice. :D

I didn't get what the huge negative reaction over the ending was. Sure, it wasn't as great as I had hoped, but I don't understand comments I've seen on Youtube and here on DA like "the ending of Mass Effect 3 has done the impossible; it's made me never want to play Mass Effect ever again".

Really? Just play the multiplyer, kill all synthetics, and Sheppard will live.

I...am going to withhold judgment until I get my hands on this DLC... However, I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to it or not. I want to be excited that my Shepard will get the ending she deserves, living in a beach house with Garrus somewhere warm and tropical and living off the royalties from the vids. But... 8|
